This individual is responsible for maintaining aseptic, orderly and attractive housekeeping conditions in all assigned areas of The Acadia Hospital. The work environment consists of a hospital setting and requires long periods of standing and walking, stooping, bending, lifting and operating heavy machinery. May be exposed to hazards from the use of tools, chemicals, power equipment and medical waste. Perform any duties and/or responsibilities assigned by Manager or Supervisor for which qualified.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas:
Becomes qualified to perform housekeeping assignments in any given area or department.
Accepts initial assignment or department or changes in assigned duties readily in the interest of productivity and manpower utilization.
Maintains floors in a constantly clean manner daily. Disinfects floors in prescribed areas.
Refinishes and buffs floors as directed.
Performs carpet care, including buffing and extraction as verbally instructed in a timely and acceptable manner.
Vacuums carpets at least once weekly except in areas where more vacuuming is specified.
Submits requests for extensive carpet care to Supervisor.
Cleans furniture and assures it is free from dust and spoil spots.
Ensures that furniture is undamaged and in proper repair. Reports needed repairs promptly and within prescribed procedures.
Places furniture in accordance with pre-established arrangement.
Relocates furniture to desired location. Moves folding and boardroom tables, desks, chairs, and other furniture in a prompt and careful fashion.
Checks and reports any structural or equipment repairs to the Supervisor for work orders to Engineering as needed.
Understands and follows the seven step Standard Precaution Procedure.
Meets prescribed standards of cleanliness and asepsis upon regular inspection by Supervisor.
Collects facility waste and effectively and routinely loads and operates industrial trash compactors.
Understands and follows requirements and methods of infection prevention and control.
Understands and maintains proper body mechanic procedures. Tries to minimize injuries through negligent incidents.
Checks equipment before using and putting away. Cooperates with Supervisor in equipment preventive maintenance schedule.
Reads, understands, and ensures that chemical are labeled, stored, and used correctly. Routinely stocks supply shelves with the appropriate chemicals and cleaning solutions.
Becomes familiar, follows, and maintains computer procedures to inform Registration of all discharge beds cleaned.
Observes all policies and procedures of the Housekeeping Department and The Acadia Hospital.
Accepts and completes special assignments as required in a timely manner.
Maintains harmonious relationship with coworkers, patients, and visitors.
Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community. Maintains regulatory requirements, including Joint Commission, Federal and State. Complies with all organizational policies regarding EMH's Code of Conduct and ethical business practices.
Mature high school graduate or equivalent preferred. Job related experience in housekeeping in a hospital environment preferred. Must have the ability to communicate effectively and to understand and follow instructions. Completes Healthstream Mandatory Education on a yearly basis. Attends all mandatory safety related education programs. Follows safety procedures to prevent injury to self and others. Carries assigned keys and wears hospital ID badge at all times. Must be well-groomed and have good personal hygiene. Refrains from the abuse of chemicals.
Must possess good oral and written communication skills in the English language.
Visual acuity, color vision, hearing acuity, and tactile sensation are necessary to respond to patient response and requests. The ability to read and speak English, to communicate and document information. Must possess the manual dexterity and a degree of body strength and flexibility; to respond to aggressive patient behavior. The ability to reach and stretch intermittently.
